ASIA

Asia is the world's most populous continent. Four billion people, or 60% of the global population, live in Asia, which also has numerically the largest number of poor people in the world.

There are major challenges to development cooperation in Asia. The continent has in recent years been afflicted by political upheavals, natural disasters and the end of rapid economic growth.

Asian countries are mid-table in the Human Development Index. In the South and East-Asian countries wealth and opportunities to make a living are, however, shared very unequally between regions and population groups.

The rapidly growing economy, the unequal distribution of wealth, economic crises and rising poverty are increasing social problems, as well as problems related to environmental protection.

Support from FCA improves the social standing and livelihoods of the marginalised and most disadvantaged poor people. Our most important operating areas in Asia are Afghanistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Cambodia.

About 15,7% of our annual aid budget is directed to Asia.
