MIDDLE EAST

Although the Middle East as a region is doing better economically than many of our other operating areas, political uncertainty and lack of democracy is still making people's lives difficult. Many countries are still suffering or are only just recovering from wars, forced migration and serious human rights abuses.

The Middle Eastern countries belong to the middle income countries. The problems in the region are the result of wars and conflicts: forced migration, insecurity, increasing vulnerability and trauma. FCA's work in the Middle East focuses on the occupied Palestinian territories and the countries most affected by population movements.

Regional aid programmes in the Middle East include improving the health and livelihood of Sudanese people who have fled to Syria and Lebanon, training staff to care for the victims of torture and conflict, and supporting refugees without documents in Lebanon. In addition to this, FCA supports the dissemination of information regarding refugees and asylum seekers.

About 1.5% of FCA's annual aid budget is directed to the Middle East.
